It was a rainy day for Jock and Cody's wedding. They decided that they wanted to go ahead with their ceremony in the rain, and it was absolutely beautiful! This photo was taken after their ceremony, at around 4pm.Lighting
The rain and wind created such a beautiful scene, with the timbers of the wharf shimmering because of the water, and the white of the dress, umbrella and wharf railing subtly standing out against the grey. I love how the wharf seems to disappear.Equipment
I used a Canon 5D Mk 3 with a 70-200mm EF 2.8 lensInspiration
When I shoot weddings, I always use Mother Nature to the best of my ability. When its a grey and rainy day I have to help the couple make the most of it for their photos. Cody and Jock are clearly in love, so I had them focus on each other and forget I was there. I placed Cody so the wind would pick up her dress, gave Jock the umbrella, and told them to ignore me completely and talk about the fact that they just got married. This is the result..Editing
Post processing was minimal. I tidied up the wharf railing and timber panels, and used the burn tool to darken the timbers slightly. The light was actually perfect, so I didn't really need to do anything else.In my camera bag
My bag has a Canon 5D mk 3, a 5D mk 4, 70-200m lens, 24-70m lens, 16-35m lens and 100m macro lens and a speedlite 600 flash. I also have lots of camera batteries, spare memory cards, batteries for the flashFeedback
Rainy and cloudy days can be your best friend if you accept them, and use them to your advantage. Do not be afraid of getting a bit wet! I always have a conversation with my brides and grooms about accepting whatever weather they have on their wedding day, as it is the only thing we have no control over. I convince them that regardless of the weather, I will find ways to create amazing memories for them.
