Behind The Lens

Location

New Albany, Ohio

Time

I honestly don't remember, but guarantee it was overcast.

Lighting

Lydia is illuminated with natural light and the help of an 8x8 ft reflector, created by myself, including a rolling stand.

Equipment

Canon 6D, Sigma 35mm f1.4 Art, Natural light

Inspiration

Lydia is a professional model. Two things that make her very different to work with. She moves fast and is also a contortionist. You learn very quickly to move faster if you want the shot. At the same time, Lydia will stop and take direction while I take my time in posing her. The session resulted in a mixture of Lydia's poses and mine. Here, I have her standing in a 4x4ft corner of polystyrene. She moved her hand to her lip and I said STOP!

Editing

Frequency separation for her skin and too much pink.

In my camera bag

These days, I stick close to home and carry only the essentials. If my camera dies, I'll drive home and get another one. I don't understand the craze of carrying all your gear, all the time. We aren't going to war and your phone still works. That said, backup cards use no space and that 2nd battery doesn't use much. I want one prime and one zoom on me at all times. That could be a 35mm with a 70-200mm or a 50mm with a 24-105mm, but not all of it.
