Location
I took this shot while standing on the bow of a catamaran boat tour just off of the Isle of Santorini, Greece. My wife and I decided to spend our anniversary in Santorini this year during COVID.Time
This beautiful sunset was taken around 5 pm in November. My wife and I decided to book a boat tour around the island and they ended it with this breathtaking sunset! We went swimming in the Aegean Sea, enjoyed a nice tour around the island and ended the day with a breathtaking sunset.Lighting
I was hoping for some great clouds to accentuate the lighting, I was not disappointed, I especially love the way the light reflects off of the water and the upper clouds, the golden hour is my favorite time of day for outdoor photos!Equipment
I used a Nikon D850 and a kit lens 24-120 as that is pretty the only lens I have, I also used Lightroom on my iPad to edit and post the photo.Inspiration
I have been on the hunt for a while for breath taking sunsets and when my wife suggested we head to Santorini for our anniversary I couldn’t resist! I stood on the bow of that boat in choppy waters taking as many photos as I could with different settings trying for different looks, I finally settled on this one because of the reflection of the water, the clouds in front of the sun on the horizon, and the perfectly lit sky.Editing
I did do some adjustments in Lightroom but not very many, I put a vignette around the photo, adjusted the exposure a little, and saturated the colors to bring out that beautiful warm tone of the sun setting. In my camera bag
In my camera bag, I keep a Nikon D850, 24-120 f4 kit lens, a flash, and that’s about it. I do keep extra batteries, a couple of push button led lights, 550 cord, a Leatherman and of course, snacks!Feedback
I would advise others on making sure you are in a good location, location, location! Location is everything aside from photography skills, that and proper gear. I shoot in manual mode and then check my histogram as well as a quick check of the image, then adjust from there once I think I am dialed in. I will sometimes silhouette the foreground if I am not happy with it, but this case the foreground was perfect so I wanted to include that!
