Much of Icelands south coast is dominated by basalt lava fields and the coast is no exception. These get broken down by the relentless abrasive power of the ocean forming spectacular and desolate black beaches. Marram grass is the only thing that grows here, which in turn gives rise to the beautiful dune system seen here.
