This photo was taken at this couple's home for their anniversary session!Time
If I remember correctly, this was taken around mid afternoon. I asked the wife what direction their bedroom window faced and timed the shoot to where the sun wasn't blaring through.Lighting
I didn't want so much natural light or blaring sun where it cast a shadows of the window panes/grid. I did bring a light with me to set up on a tripod on the opposite side of the window to give even more light. The light I brought is awesome because you can change the temperature on the back, so I matched it with the natural light.Equipment
This was shot on a Canon 80D on my Sigma 17-50mm lens. To get this shot, I had the couple lay down flat while I stood on a chair and held the camera out over them. Thank goodness for a swivel screen!Inspiration
The entire shoot was the client's idea that they brought to me. They put on their wedding attire a year later with a box of pizza and Netflix on the computer! Those photos are for another day though! Pinterest was actually my biggest inspiration. There's only so much you can do on a bed with the right angles, and her brown hair was really shining here, so I said, "LAY FLAT!"Editing
Yes! I always edit my photos to something more warm and glowy. I am so drawn to the warm tones that I honestly can't help myself! When I visualize shots, I even picture them after they are already edited. I feel that really helps my composition as well.In my camera bag
I always have my 80D and for the most part keep that Sigma 17-50mm 2.8, but the golden ticket for any portrait shoot is the 50mm 1.8! This is the holy grail for detail shots and head shots. I recently got a speed flash, so that is not in my camera bag. Pretty minimal!Feedback
Work with natural light! Get as close to a big window as possible if you're in a dark room. Also, really play around with editing and shooting in RAW! You can do so much with a RAW file in post that you couldn't achieve in camera. Have fun, try new things, and experiment!
