Location
This photo was taken at the top of Hierve el Agua park in Oaxaca, Mexico.Time
After spending the night at one of the lodges of the park (an amazing experience indeed), I could take this picture a few minutes after the sunrise, in a very cold sunny morning. I think it was winter solstice day.Lighting
Sunny day, maybe one hour after the sun rises. No flashes or any artificial lights.Equipment
I used the camera in my hands, as most of the times... It was a Canon 60d with a simple zoom lens.Inspiration
Before visiting Oaxaca in Mexico I saw many pictures of this place... and I was very curious about it. My goal was not to take the same picture I saw everywhere before. I felt that I had to have time study the place, and I wanted the sunrise or sunset light to help with the composition. Well done, we found the info and the ways to sleep in there. It was an unforgettable sunrise, with no people in the park (except me and my girlfriend) and so I have time and freedom to explore and click this magical place. It's a very simple fibonacci composition, the magic is on that place already.Editing
The idea of black and white came after, during post processing work. so I cropped a little and worked on its contrast and controls for high and low keys.In my camera bag
A simple kit: just a Canon 60d + zoom lens + 50mm. And a Gopro hero 7 black sometimes.Feedback
Study and practice. Take your time when your are into the scene. Sometimes you have to be quick, sometimes you have to be patient. Always be creative.
