When looking at this scene, it took me a few minutes to notice the shadows on the wall. It’s not just the third shadow, but the order of the shadows that makes this such a powerful diorama. This was an exhibit at an interpretive center in Casper, Wyoming. This diorama depicts the reality of traveling west along the Mormon and Oregon-California Trails in the United States during the mid and late 1800’s. These routes led settlers from Missouri, through Salt Lake City, and on to the west coast.
