Location
The photo was taken during the lockdown period in Haarlem (NL). I took an evening walk with my camera and I sat on a bench enjoying the sunset. I am a self though photographer so every shot is pretty much a new lesson.Time
This is one of my favorite shots. I finished to work (smart working) around 7pm, grabbed a package of chips for my fiancee and I, took my camera, walked to Haarlem city center and sat on our favorite bench and relaxed. I had no tripod so I tried to balance my camera laying it down on the bridge columns. I still recall that evening as one of the best evening spent during the pandemic period.Lighting
I wanted this image to capture the street lights reflected in the canal as well as the sunset. ?Equipment
It was shot on a Canon 650D, 18-135 lens, no tripod nor flash. Aperture f/22 ISO 100 Shutter 30/1 Focal Length 18/1Inspiration
This is one of the best canals in Haarlem to look at the sunset reflected on the water. Night landscapes is one of my favourite type of pictures and I often sit at this bench. During the pandemic, photography kept my mood up and since the lockdown allowed us to walk in our neighbourhood only, I decided to take my camera and shoot that moment. When I look at this picture I can feel my mood that evening and how taking pictures that night helped me stying motivated and not loosing faith due to the circumstances.Editing
I developed the raw format to correct the white balance, luminosity and saturation. In my camera bag
I only have 18-35 lens, therefore this is the only one I use and adapt to the type of pictures I like: day-night landscapes and sunsets. I always bring with me an extra battery as well as SD memory in case I'll be out of charge/space and depending of the type of scenario I want to capture, I might bring tripod with me as well (unless I know a good spot where I can lay down my camera on).Feedback
I would always suggest to carefully prepare for the scenario they're going to shoot. In this case I knew the place upfront and I knew at what time the sunset was and what I needed to succeed. Depending on the type of picture and place, prepare the equipment accordingly: lens, tripod, flash, battery, filters, etc. Shoot multiple times with different shutter options. The sunset changes very quickly and so lights and colours. Finally, lots of patience!
