Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken beside Joss Lake, a tiny alpine lake sitting next to the snow on Joss mountain in British Columbia.

Time

This was shot at night obviously... specifically at 12:30 am. I used an app called PhotoPills to see were the band of the Milky Way would be months before I made the hike up there.

Lighting

I planned this hike around this photo. I had been to this location before and shot one of my first Astro pics the year before. Now with new gear and a lot more knowledge I headed up the mountain knowing exactly were to be and when to be there to get dark skies.

Equipment

This was shot on a Nikon z6 with a samyang 14mm 2.8

Inspiration

This picture was inspired by my desire to do better than my previous attempts to capture the Milky Way. I am always trying to create something new that I have never done before

Editing

This required a lot of post processing. The foreground was shot a few hours before, and the sky is a three shot vertical panorama. Processing was done in Lightroom and photoshop.

In my camera bag

What I carry depends on what I’m doing. Always a Nikon z6 and lenses depend on the situation

Feedback

Be patient and shoot often. It took me years to understand my camera well enough to get this shot.
