Location
It was taken by a cliff side over looking the sea in a town on the beautiful island of Cyprus. This is honestly one of my favorite spots to go just to breathe. Standing at this location from the top looking out to sea always reminds me how small my problems are and how big the world really is! It's truly a refreshing location.Time
It was a summer afternoon just before golden hour. I was doing a family session for a lovely couple and their young daughter who came to Cyprus from Germany. This is one of my favorite shots from that day because we had been walking around this area doing our thing and then the family just took a breath and started to take in their surroundings. Mother and daughter were having this moment where they were truly just feeling the emotion, enjoying each others company. They were so in the moment and you can really see the love through this photo.Lighting
I took this just before golden hour so it was still pretty bright out but also had a very warm and inviting tone to it. The sun was just to the side, almost behind me perfectly glowing on them.Equipment
This was shot on a Canon 6D Mark ii and a 24-70mm f/2.8 lens. It was taken with no other equipment.Inspiration
As I said earlier, this family traveled from Germany for a little getaway. When they reached out to me they said that they wanted to create memories pf their time here. I immediately knew how I wanted this session to go. We basically walked around, we ran, explored, played in the sea, we just had a good time and captured it all. It wasn't until we took a break that I saw this adorable moment and knew I wanted to capture it. My inspiration for this photo was to capture pure love and moments between the members of this family so that they can look back at this in years to come and feel exactly what they felt in that moment.Editing
I did a little bit of post processing. I brought back a bit of the warm tones that were present on the day, I adjusted some of the colors to be subtle yet to keep the subject as the main focus and I lifted the darks just a bit to give it a touch of that film effect. In my camera bag
Of course I always have my Canon 6D Mark ii. A camera with a flip out screen is a must for me as I like to get low shots so the adjustable screen makes it so much easier to see what I'm doing. I have my usual 24-70mm f/2.8 lens, I find it's so versatile and it really covers most of the bases and then I have a macro lens of 70-200mm and of course an external flash.Feedback
I would say be patient, you can't force someone to do something like this. It has to happen naturally in order to have such a reaction and emotion. Also, give your subject something to do so they aren't so conscious of the fact that there's a camera pointed at them. Don't worry about the weather, you can't control it. Just go with it! Lastly, a smile goes a long way.
