Behind The Lens

Location

Photo was made from the terrace overlooking the Lake Ohrid coast, comfortably sitting in my chair, elbows on the table to stabilize the shot.

Time

Date/Time of the photo was 06-Sep-20 12:12:16

Lighting

Here's all there is to it: Shutter Speed: 1/800 sec, F-Number: f/6.5, ISO 100, Exposure Bias Value: -0.30 eV, Metering Mode: Center weighted average, Flash: Off, Did not fire, Focal Length: 258 mm, White Balance Details: Auto1

Equipment

A NIKON model COOLPIX P610 was used for this shot. No added gear!

Inspiration

Summer scenes like this one are everywhere, and every now and then something will catch the eye and make me grab the camera. And how could one resist this pink "floatingo" and a smiling, happy face?

Editing

I only need to crop this content out of the somewhat larger scene, so as to get rid of certain distracting objects. This was also the reason for the square format. The colors I did not touch; that's how my Nikon saw them; this is what we got!

In my camera bag

Relaxing on the terrace usually means just having a long lens camera and a cup of coffee at hand, but in other situations it is easier to me to carry a photo vest than any photo bag. So I load my photo vest with whatever I might need for my photo session, walk or trip. My photo bags usually keep the equipment I'm not using at the moment. The vest's many pockets usually contain two cameras, spare batteries, ND and CPL filters, and one small photo clamp instead of a tripod. Sometimes I'll include a small action camera, mainly for its wide field of view and resistance to water and weather. The vest has large-lens pockets that holds a small water bottle, a sandwich, or a bar of chocolate if I plan on being out for the whole day. There is about three meters length of paracord or similar strong, thin rope, one hefty pocket knife, and a lighter. With these, much can be "mcgyvered" along the way, so that's all I need. Recently I make it even more comfortable for me, and take the essentials along in a waist pouch. Simplicity and comfort; two best ingredients in most situations!

Feedback

Advice would be that same-old, same-old... Look around, and ALWAYS have a camera within your reach. Murphy's laws have a way to prove that the most surprising action will happen when you've forgotten to bring your camera and it sits there in the bag, right next to the proper but unmounted lens. Avoid the embarrasment and frustration, and always have the camera at hand - loaded and safety off! And enjoy! :)
