This photo was taken during the day. But for the shooting, powerful studio flashes were used. So natural light didn't matter.Lighting
The subject was illuminated with two powerful studio flashes. One device shone on a large white screen, which was reflected on the surface of the vase. The screen was located on the side and slightly behind the vase. Thus a curved smooth line was made. The second device illuminated the spikelets with a narrow beam. It was located in front, on the top and slightly to the side of the vase.Equipment
For shooting were used: Nikon D800; Nikon AF-S 60mm f/2.8G ED Micro; tripod Manfrotto; two studio flashes Bowens Esprit Gemini 750+Inspiration
I am a professional photographer, but this photo was not taken for commercial purposes. I love the shape of this vase and have long wanted to use its flowing lines. The straight lines of wild barley spikelets seemed to me the best contrast and addition to the curved lines of the ceramic vase.Editing
I tried to make the shot so that image manipulation would not be necessary. However, some post-processing is always necessary. In this photo, a small glare on the surface of the vase was removed from the flash that illuminated the spikelets. I also removed small dust spots and irregularities on the surface of the vase.In my camera bag
I'm not too young anymore, so I try not to carry a lot of iron and glass with me. I only put what I need in my bag. Usually this is a Nikon D800 camera and one of the lenses. 60 micro or 85 mm. Unfortunately, you often have to carry a heavy tripod.Feedback
I try not to start shooting something until I have an idea of what the final shot should look like.
