Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in the botanical garden at my local community center in Elizabethtown, Kentucky.

Time

I took this photo around 5 PM or so after the community center had closed. I love walking through the botanical garden after everyone goes home because a lot of the pollinators and birds become more active.

Lighting

No

Equipment

This was shot on a Canon EOS 70D with a 50 mm lens. I had to crouch way down, almost laying down on the ground, to get level with the coneflower. I wanted the viewer to really feel like they are getting a bee's eye view.

Inspiration

I am a huge advocate for using native wildflowers in home landscaping to support our wildlife. Coneflowers are some of our most popular natives to put in pollinator gardens/landscaping because they are utilized by dozens of pollinators and birds. I really wanted to draw the viewer in and show them our native species can be just as beautiful as the non-native species we so often see in home landscaping that are not providing any ecosystem services.

Editing

No. This photo was not edited or changed in any way.

In my camera bag

I always bring extra batteries! There is nothing worse than trying to take a cool shot when your camera suddenly dies.

Feedback
