Behind The Lens

Location

Located along the Mason-Dixon Trail in Southeastern PA, this photo was taken close to the Susquehanna River in rural Pennsylvania that creates a natural boarder between Lancaster and York counties. Here, you see a small hidden waterfall that leads to the larger Mill Creek Falls, which flows into the even larger Susquehanna River.

Time

The sun was just beginning to set while 5 o'clock and the evening hours started to roll in.

Lighting

I tend to look for soft side lighting for many of the photographs I take. Which is why I like to wait for the sun or any other light source to be in an in-direct position to the subjects. This creates more contrast and depth within the image, in my opinion.

Equipment

I used my Nikon D750, Nikon 24mm f/1.4 prime lens, circular polarizer, 4 stop ND filter, and tripod. I also utilized the delay exposure mode within the camera settings to reduce "camera shake".

Inspiration

I have a love for nature and the National Parks of the United States and the rest of the World.

Editing

Yes, Lightroom and Photoshop were both used in the post processing of this image.

In my camera bag

Nikon D750, Nikon 24mm f/1.4 Prime, Nikon 50mm f/1.4 Prime, Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 Sports, Tripod, CPL and ND filters, extra batteries, remote shutter release, nodal rail, L-bracket for D750,

Feedback

Use a tripod, and plan the shot! Compose your shot first, figure out what settings work for your situation, and wait for the light to become ideal. Using the paired CPL and 4-stop ND filter combination allows for slower shutter speeds with brighter light, and sharper color contrast with less distracting reflections. Patience certainly pays off in photography, and I have been pleasantly surprised plenty of times for sticking around for just a few more minutes!
