Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken during my last holidays. I've visited my in-laws with my partner. That's where they keep two cats, one of them being Ellie.

Time

I think it was early afternoon.

Lighting

I relied completely on the natual light.

Equipment

As this as pretty much spur-of-the-moment photo, I grabbed only my camera. Which was Canon 2000D with Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 STM lens.

Inspiration

I've been meaning to take some photos of Ellie for quite a while. Being a cat, I had to wait for an opportunity as she's not one for posing for camera. I've noticed her relaxing on some wooden steps, so that's when I decided to take some photos.

Editing

With this particular photo I went with quite punchy black & white style. I've used Lightroom to convert it, then tweaked the settings.

In my camera bag

Along with my Canon 2000D, I carry 3 lenses; 18-55mm, 50mm and 70-300mm to give me the most flexibility in taking photos. I usualy have my speedlight as well as some filters.

Feedback

With cats, if you're lucky to find that your cat can be easily convinced to sit somewhere still and pose - you're golden. Otherwise it's a case of always being on the lookout for opportunities - never force an animal to "work" for your photos. Let then behave naturally and it will come through the photos.
