I don't know exactly why the background looks like it does. The white patches are flower-heads and the green, yellow and oranges are other plants. The light came from the sun behind clouds, so it was bright, diffused light.Equipment

My friend has a beautiful garden that is often visited by many butterflies and bees, so it was great to finally get a photo of one of them.Editing

Canon PowerShot G15. It is super cheap (£100) because it is a few years old but it works perfectly for me, even with a miniature sensor, because it can focus close enough for reasonable macro performanceFeedback
If you have a small sensor like me, it is worth trying to find a suitable background that suits the subject and can be defocused.
