One of those days with no wind and an almost oily surface on the water. The duck to the right was the only disturbing object

wonderful shot and the duck just makes it more natural.. all well. Just the triangle bottom left might want a crop.. just saying

You are right - a bit more trimming could do it

You have given 2020 a positive swing that is really (nice) positive, a contribution to the Year 2020 Collection. As always, the competition will be tough, which, as an added consequence, makes the victory taste very sweet. Good luck and probably for the … time: Happy New Year and stay healthy in 2021!

Behind The Lens

Location

The Frederiksborg Castle is located in Hilleroed about 30 kilometers North of Copenhagen. Build by Christian IV after a devastating fire destroyed the previous castle. He changed the layout entirely and built what I believe is the most beautiful castle in Denmark. To the left of the main building you can see one of the buildings surrounding the forecourt and to the right the entrance building where the carriage would be sheltered from bad weather as the guests embarked before wandering through the large reception hall into the castle. The photo is from the eastern edge of the baroque garden where the two adjacent buildings are framing and enhancing the main motive.

Time

It was 0930 in the morning the 1st of august. I snapped the photo on my way to the baroque garden which I had thoughtto be the best position for a shot of the castle. It wasn't because the trees and bushes disturbed the composition and on my way back about 15 minuttes later the surface of the lake was shattered by wind gusts.

Lighting

I wanted the sun to add some depth to the structure. If the photo was taken earlier the light would have been more direct and faded the texture - a little later and it would have been too dark and the texture on the lefthand wall would have been faded.

Equipment

I love my gear but this photo was taken with my cell phone HUAWEI VNS-L31. Settings were F/2 1/733 sec focallength 3,79 mm and ISO 50. It's not always a question of expensive equipment

Inspiration

I lived in the area and often used the park and the surroundings for a good walk. The castle is a godsend to photographers - building details, architecture, interior of the rooms, paintings, tapestry, landscape you name it. The church inside the castle is even more fantastic. This morning I was stunned by the perfect reflections though obscured by the duck paddling across the lake

Editing

Contrast has been enhanced slightly and a bit more saturation.

In my camera bag

Camera Canon 7D, spare camera Canon 30D, Canon 17-85 F/4.0, Canon 70-200 F2.8 USM I, remote trigger, spare battery, space CF-cards, SpeedLite 440, diffuser for flash, cleaning gear, handheld torch, head torch, shooting gloves. Both lenses have a protective filter since I mainly did motorsport and flying grit or pebbles can ruin a lens in a fraction of a second

Feedback

Shoot first - ask questions later! This photo is a clear example of being the right place at the right time and keep your eyes open. The moment will never come back so go for it when the opportunity is there
