Behind The Lens

Location

It is taken at Shinjuku, Tokyo. I am a hobby photographer and this is the very beginning of an architecture photo series I plan to shoot.

Time

It is toward evening, I shoot with long exposure, when half of exposure the street lamp lighted. I think it’s a plus for the photo.

Lighting

As a fine art architecture photo, I want to highlight the building itself so the skylight should be controlled. Just retain the cloud. And the light and details inside building should be well considered, too.

Equipment

I shoot this photo with a Sony A7r3 and Canon 16-35mm F2.8 lenses. With ND 1000 filter to get long exposure and the flowing cloud effect.

Inspiration

I like fine art architecture photo so much. And I think architecture is a important part of human culture, so architecture photography should be a very important part of photography, too. There are many talented architecture photographers around the world, I can see their works at SNS every day. Because Tokyo has a large number of architecture, I want show that with a fine art vision to more people.

Editing

For fine art architecture photo, the important post-processing Should be make selections. Make different selections of sky and every building. The sky and clouds perform as TIME and the buildings composition perform as SPACE.

In my camera bag

I mainly use Sony A7r3 now because it has a large pixel numbers and very suit for architecture and landscapes. For lenses I use Canon16-35 F2.8. And a Laowa 12mm and Magic adapter, with allow me to shift camera view to shoot what I want.

Feedback

For fine art architecture photo, I think the important thing is Composition and Post processing. For composition i think it need much exercise and I’m just on the way, too. Also can watch good work at SNS as much as you can. For Post processing it’s usually need much time to do selection works, but when you used to it, I think you will enjoy the processing and find much to do with your imagination.
