Very nice, great composition! The way the highlight in the clouds makes the tree and swing stand out is wonderful, Great job!

I love this! It's kind of creepy in a way, has that vibe to it aha but it's also really calming. The colours look great as well. Nice job.

Captures my imagination. The kids swinging. The tree is old... the older rope has no tire... summers past.

Location
This image was from Douglas Lake Campgrounds boat ramp, near Dandridge, Tennessee.Time
I shot this at approximately 9:00 am. There was a very heavy fog that morning, eliminating the "golden hour" image I had envisioned the night before. Visibility was only about 10 feet when I first arrived.Lighting
The lighting was somewhat of a challenge. I really liked the "mood" set by the fog, but even though the sun was well above the horizon, the diffusion created a "silhouette" effect on my subject. I tried a +/- 2 stop bracket, but wasn't satisfied with the lack of detail in the tree. I then did another bracket but I used the onboard flash to bring out some detail in the tree.Equipment
I used a Canon 7D with an EF 17-24mm f/4L USM lens. I used a Tiffen GND filter to minimize blowing out the highlights of the sun. It was all mounted on a Sunpack Ultra 7000 TM tripod with a pistol grip head. I used a Vello Wireless Shutter Boss to trigger the brackets and mirror lockup to minimize camera shake.Inspiration
My inspiration developed the evening before as my wife and I walked around the shoreline of Douglas Lake. As I stood, looking across the water, my eyes were drawn to the old swing. I could plainly see in my mind the children laughing and swinging out over the water, and feel the joy and happiness in their voices. The motionless swing brought forth a somber feeling, as if the old tree was longing for Summer so it could once again bring happiness and joy to the children of the campground.Editing
I processed the RAW files in Adobe RAW, then blended them using Photomatix 5. I finished the resulting TIFF file in Photoshop Elements 9. I first made a slight "curves" adjustment then made some "targeted" exposure adjustments using the plug in "Topaz Adjust". Lastly I used the plug in "Topaz De-Noise" and saved it as a Tiff file. I used Canon's Digital Photo Professional to convert it to a JPG for posting on ViewBug.In my camera bag
My gear bag contains my Canon 7D ... EF 17-24mm f/4L USM ... EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM II ... EF 2X III Extender ... Tiffen GND filter,Tiffen Polarizing filter ... Vello Wireless Shutter Boss.Feedback
My best advice is what I learned from this image. Simply, don't be discouraged if the elements prevent you from getting the shot you had envisioned. This image is far from the "early golden hour" I intended to capture. Get creative and put together something possibly even better. You might just end up with a "Frontpage Feature". ;0)
