Location
This photo was taken on Dry Island in the north west Highlands of Scotland near to where I live. At High Tide it literally is an island whilst low tide you can walk across. There is a floating bridge to allow access at any time.Time
This image was taken late afternoon when the sun wasn't so harsh.Lighting
We had a gloriously sunny day but by 5pm the light was less intense and did not wash everything out there were some lovely whisky clouds in the sky which drew the eye into the picture.Equipment
This was shot on a Canon 7D mkII with a Sigma 10-20 lens.Inspiration
Dry Island is an idyllic place owned by friends of ours, he is a shell fish fisherman so the lobster creels in the foreground tell his story somewhat along with the boats. Featuring the little cottage also helps to show what an idyllic place it is.Editing
Very little processing was done of the RAW file in Lightroom. In my camera bag
I carry a 17-70 Sigma lens, my wide angle landscape lens I used for this shot. A Canon 70-200 zoom lens, a couple of filters and trigger release and two flash guns, oh and also my favourite new toy my Ricoh Theta Z1 360 camera.Feedback
I have been to the island many times, our house is across the opposite side of the Loch so get familiar with a location and get to know it under different lighting conditions. The more intimate your knowledge of a location the better the opportunity for getting an image to be proud of.
