Behind The Lens

Location

This picture was taken on a walk around my neighborhood in North Portland (Oregon). Unless I'm planning an outing with the purpose of photography, I usually only have my Samsung Galaxy S9 with me, which is what this photo was taken with. I love photography but am still learning so much with every shot I take.

Time

I can remember this picture was taken on a quiet street near a neighbot park I take my dog for walks around. It was probably around 4:30 in the afternoon and was a bit overcast, so the natural lighting was amazing.

Lighting

As I mentioned earlier, it was overcast in the late afternoon. It was light out but without any sun, thus no shadows. This is about the perfect time of day (aside from sunrise & sunset) for great outdoor shots in my world.

Equipment

Unfortunately I didn't have any of my specific equipment with me but in my mind, this picture couldn't wait for me to go home and get it, so I pulled out my Samsung Galaxy S9 and took a few shots. Again, there was no equipment, just me and my phone taking pictures that are amazing.

Inspiration

I love the outdoors and although I don't get to camp or hike as often as I would like in the more remote areas that I would choose to take some more nature-immersed photos in, I do live in a very "green" state that provides the environment for lots of beautiful flowers to grow around nearly every corner. How could I pass a beauty like this and NOT take it's picture?

Editing

I do not do any post-processing on my pictures thus far. That is one of the reasons why I love it when Mother Nature gives me a hand with lighting. It's not always the prefect time to take the picture. Your subject might be ready but the environment isn't. It takes more patience to get the photos you want, but it is well worth the wait.

In my camera bag

As a gift for getting licensed for my current profession, my wife purchased me a Canon Rebel SL2 EOS 200D. There were a few extra effect or tinting lenses and some low magnification telephoto lenses. Nothing fancy. I'm still learning how to use it to it's greatest potential.

Feedback

Patience...and a willingness to go without the shot immediately. You don't always get what you want. You just have the want what you get.
