Behind The Lens
Location
Outside near an old water reservoir in MontrealTime
It was around 2pm in summer time.Lighting
I used a combination of natural sunlight and strobe lighting.. natural light behind the subject on camera right, and the strobe in front of the subject, camera left.Equipment
It was shot with a Nikon d750 and a Nikki 50mm 1.8. The strobe was a Westcott fj400 with dual diffusion on a Rapid Box switch Octa-M softbox.Inspiration
My son models well and I had just purchased my Fj400 strobe and I wanted to test it in a natural environment.Editing
I used photoshop to clean up the photo, removing my son’s teenage blemishes and darkening the green tone grass while giving a slight purple hue to the gravel to create contrast. In my camera bag
I always carry my go to 24-120mm Nikkor lens, with the 50mm prime f1.8 lens.Feedback
Always test the shot without the strobe to set how you want the background to look, then add the artificial lighting.
