Behind The Lens

Location

I was out with friends early morning to watch the birds at the lake in my city. I love photography and make sure I have my camera during such outings.

Time

I had reached at this place before the Sunrise and waited for the birds to start with their activities. I waited at one spot without moving much so that I could see this pied Kingfisher close enough. It was about 6:00 AM in the morning when I finally got this perfect shot.

Lighting

I had to depend on the natural light as this is was an outdoor photography of Birds! I made sure I was settled at a location where I was in the shadows while the birds would be in the Sunlight.

Equipment

This was shot in Canon 1200D with a 18-135mm lens. No other equipment was used.

Inspiration

I have always wanted to click a close shot of pied Kingfisher. I have seen the bird earlier but it was too far to get a close-up. I knew I had a good chance to try my luck at this newly discovered spot. And violà, there it was!

Editing

The did minimal post-processing of cropping and adjusting the brightness and exposure a little bit.

In my camera bag

I carry my Canon 1200D and Canon 18-135mm lens. Apart from that I make sure I have my gorilla tripod and shutter release cable with me.

Feedback

Clicking birds can be tricky, especially if they are small in size as they tend to be really fast. Make sure you have the correct camera settings and keep a watch through viewfinder. The trick is to press the shutter button just before the (bird's) activity you want to capture. So, you may need to observe the bird's routine first and then go for the shot. Good luck!
