This is the Chance Vought SLV-I Blue Scout. SCOUT, an acronym for Solid Controlled Orbital Utility Test system. A four-stage solid fuel system capable of launching a 385-pound satellite into a 500-mile orbit. SCOUT was America’s first solid-fuel launch vehicle capable of orbiting a satellite. (Strategic Air Command & Aerospace Museum) On our way to capture the Crane migration in Nebraska I saw a display from the road, so I asked my hubby to check if I can capture some photos. Time was on our side, me and my hubby got in and capture some night time photos with rockets exhibited at this museum. The same photo that was published in National Geographic. In case you will ask the bright one on top of the SCOUT it is Jupiter.
In connection to my photo, today May 30, 2020 at 3:22 PM EDT there is a rocket launch. The Commercial Crew SpaceX Demonstration Mission 2 at the Kennedy Space Center LC-39A in Florida. The founder of this is an Internet mogul Elon Musk.
However, l am concerned with the environmental impact of this “commercial SpaceX. First it will burn massive amount of fuel, it helds 440 tons of jet fuel with high carbon content and it will release a lot of carbon dioxide intot the air. Second, SpaceX has plans to launch a rocket into space every two weeks once it has fully scaled its operation. So, in a year they will launch 24 times, the frequency really creates a lot of carbon emission despite the claims of being reclaimed. Remember, Covid has proven to us that the less polluted sky is really beautiful.
