Behind The Lens

Location

This image was taken at our home in Sanger of the stately Male Peacock showing off to the three hens he attends to during the breeding season.

Time

I do most of my photography of him in the early to mid-morning hours. I am constantly taking pictures of him as he is in love with his image and is always looking at himself in every shiny object that he can find to see his own reflection.

Lighting

I prefer natural light, and I am always checking my background to avoid shadows and distracting light and shadows.

Equipment

I mainly use one of my three Nikon camera bodies. My primary camera is a Nikon D70 with a 35 - 135mm lens, a 70 - 210mm lens, 50mm lens. The second body is a Nikon D70 with a70 to 300mm lens, and the third body is a has a Nikon D40 with a Nikon DX18 - 55mm lens, and a Nikon 55 - 200 AF, so I do not waste time changing lenses and I am already set up and I am ready to shoot.

Inspiration

It is definitely his attitude and how he is always showing off.

Editing

I always post-process my pictures mostly for correct color and clarity.

In my camera bag

I mainly use one of my three Nikon camera bodies. The first one is a Nikon D70 with a 35 - 135mm lens, a 70 - 210mm lens, 50mm lens. The second body is a Nikon D70 with a 70 to 300mm lens, and the third body is a has a Nikon D7000 with a Nikon DX18 - 70mm lens, so I do not waste time changing lenses and I am already set up and I am ready to shoot.

Feedback

I set the camera to fast shutter speed for the action and take as many images of my subjects as is necessary. I am very lucky as they trust us and are very natural around us. These birds can move very fast when they want to get up and go. Now they have 4 baby's and that will be the next stage of this adventure.
