Behind The Lens

Location

This photograph was taken in Marina di Massa, in Tuscany, Italy. I live in this place and I am lucky enough to often witness spectacular sunsets. That evening the sky was painted purple. I often photograph sunsets by inserting the local pier into the image.

Time

The photograph was taken at six in the afternoon.

Lighting

The sun was now disappearing below the horizon line, to the right of the image, but projecting its light against the clouds.

Equipment

Canon EOS 6D Mark II with Canon EF 24-105 mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II USM, without tripod.

Inspiration

I often photograph the sunsets that occur in my seaside resort, and that evening I could not miss such an interesting purple color. Furthermore, I created a geometric effect of lines between the perspective that moves away from the pier and the horizon line.

Editing

This photograph was elaborated very little in postproduction. I had to slightly darken some areas, and lighten slightly a small area too shaded.

In my camera bag

Normally I have in my backpack: Canon 6D Mark II, Canon 24-105, Tamron 17-35mm, Sigma 105mm f/2.8.I rarely use telephoto (with the camera body Canon EOS 600D), because my favorite genres are architecture, beach photography and landscape.

Feedback

The sunset is one of the most popular photos, to make it special it takes something to distinguish it. Here I was lucky enough to find a particular purple color of the sky. And then I created a geometric effect of lines between the distant perspective of the pier and the horizon line.
