Location
The photo was taken at Cathedral Cove, in New Zealand, during a trip in 2019. This beach is characterized by its caves and islets, which make it unique in the country. One lonely person contemplating the inmensity, with these amazing shapes... and the clouds give a dramatic scenario.Time
After walking along the cliffs that line the sea, we arrived at Cathedral Cove. I think I took the photo about 3 in the afternoon. We were practically the only ones on the beach because the day was cloudy and a little windy.Lighting
As the day was cloudy, I didn't have many difficulties with the balance of lights and shades as a sunny one. However, the fact of taking the photo with a person inside a cave and using an aperture at 22 at the same time, to achieve the best sharpness of the landscape, I needed to work at slow speeds. This gave the long exposure of the water between the rocks too, but all in all, what helped me to give the last balance was a polarized filter.Equipment
This was shot on a Canon 5D Mark III with a Canon 24-70mm II f/2.8 lens and a tripod.Inspiration
First of all, being lonely in a natural place. Then, know that you can't always be in places like that one. And as a passionate photographer, I couldn't miss a shot there. I took different pictures at Cathedral Cove, but what I wanted to show in this one was a refugee person inside de cave, but gazing at the same time the inmensity and the sea vibes on a cloudy day.Editing
I always do post-processing of my pictures. I consider that all parts of the process are important, since how you set up the camera values when you shoot, to the digital treatment with the RAW files. I like to give the last touch to the pic by doing color correction, and correcting details that make prettier what it was already pretty. Personally, I love working with sharpness, shadows, contrasts, gradients, and warm and vibrant colors in my pics. In this photo, the biggest challenge was enhancing the shadows inside the cave.In my camera bag
I have varied equipment. As a travel photographer, I always try to cover all the focal range, from wide to telephoto, to be able to work at any distance. I have a Canon 5D Mark III body and I use a Canon 24-70mm f/2.8ii lens for portraits and landscapes and a Canon 70-300mm f/4-5.6 lens for wildlife, to be there when I'm not close enough and get a great shot. Nowadays, having a drone is a plus to have a different point of view, so I have a DJI Mavic Pro for aerial shots. Finally, to be an all-terrain photographer, I have a GO PRO Hero 7. I also have a light Manfrotto tripod. Up to this point, this are my essentials. In other hand, I like to experiment with other kind of photography like macro, for which I use a macrotubes with a Canon 50mm f/1.8 prime lens, and I work with architecture, by using a Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 .Feedback
