Location
Grandview Point on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon facing southeast.Time
Not too long after the super full moon rising, which takes place a little after the sunsets, around 8:30 pm in May, 2020. It was during the time the park was closed for Covid 19.Lighting
The clouds that night added the drama to the scene.Equipment
The camera was a Canon 5D Mark III, Canon EF 35mm lens, and a Feisol tripod with an Acratech ballhead, IR remote.Inspiration
It was the last super moon of 2020.Editing
I used Lightroom 5 for post processing. Mainly to tweak the photo, shadows, blacks, highlights and whites. In my camera bag
For night photography: wide angle lenses, remotes, Miops Trigger, and Coast Flash Lights of varying strengths for painting. A picnic basket for dinner on the rim.Feedback
My friend and I planned ahead of time for the night. On our way out to Grandview Point we went thru the drive thru at one of the local fast food restaurants. Got there with ample time to casually picnic on the rim then set up the equipment and focus and frame the picture while there was still light. Enjoyed the sunset and the transition to evening out amongst nature and the canyon with all the multitude of colors. We, the residents of the Canyon had the park to ourselves while we were closed for the pandemic. As you heard, with the lack of humans out and about, nature came back with a healing force. We saw this with the park. The park became pristine, no trash, peaceful and quiet. The animals were out and about the park, even black bears were sighted and heard. Be aware of your locations during unique times and how nature responds to us and/or lack of us. Use that to your advantage!
