Location
This photo was taken in a photo studio of my local Professional education school. Me and a group of other photographers met up there once a month for a creative photo shoot we organized ourselves.Time
This was taken in a totally blacked out studio so no outside light would come in. But we always did these shoots in the evening. I remember this particular one took way longer then we planed, because we all loved wanted more and more shots.Lighting
This was a great lesson in how to light a person who is laying down. The model was laying on the floor so that we could put all those fruits around her. So it took a bit of thinking about the light setup before we got it right. We wanted to have a nice low contrast light, that would light the fruit around her too.Equipment
I took this shot on my Nikon D750 camera with a 50 mm f1.8 lens. We used two studio lights with softboxes.Inspiration
Main theme of this whole shoot was color red. Since we started the program with a white themed shoot and this was the last one, we decided to end it on solid color theme too. Red can be quite a tricky color to photograph so we welcomed the challenge. Fruit and vegetables were the second idea, since there are lots of red colored ones.Editing
I love editing my pictures. And since this was a red themed shoot I paid a lot of attention to color grading to get all of the tones match and work together. Since it a close up of a face with professional makeup I also retauched the skin. It took me about an hour to fully edit and retauch this photo. In my camera bag
Usually if I'm shooting a creative portrait I will take my Nikon D750 body, 50 mm f1.8, 85 mm f1.8 and 24 mm f1.8 lenses. My favorite lens is the 85mm one, I just love the depth of field it creates, but if there is a lot of beautiful scenery to take in the 24mm is the one to go for me. If It's a wedding or some kind of an event I'm shooting I always have my second camera body in the bag. Events are not the thing You can redo and risking to lose on important shots because Your camera malfunctions is not something I wanna experience.Feedback
For this kind of shot there are three very important things: lights, makeup and post editing. If you are not to comfortable with artificial studio lighting choose natural day light, it's easier to get a nice soft light this way. Makeup is something I always pay a lot of attention to. If the makeup is poorly done you will have a lot more editing and retauching to do after. Makeup can make or break the whole shot, specially if it's a close up beauty shot. And finally the post editing - match Your tones and color grade. This is very important for pictures with solid color themes.
