Location
This photo was taken on the south island of New Zealand. While backpacking through groves of Giant Ferns, my friend and I stumbled upon this gem, surrounded by lush green.Time
This shot was taken at about 11AM on an overcast and moody day. I was hoping to come back for the golden hour, but we continued to hike further than expected.Lighting
Due to the overcast clouds and partial rain, I was able to capture much more dark green and was able to "smooth" the water more. Even with my ND filter, if it was a sunny day, this should would've been close to impossible. But, don't be deterred by the clouds and rain, think of them as a different way to see your medium.Equipment
I traveled with a Nikon D500 with a 18-50MM lens and a 70-300MM lens.Inspiration
I've always loved silky waterfall photos and thought this would be a perfect addition to my waterfall collection.Editing
The only post-processing done was a bit of green color enhancement. Other than that, the photo is as shot!In my camera bag
I usually carry my trusty 24-70MM lens, an 18-50MM and of course, a telephoto 70-300MM. You never know when you need to see an animal's nose hairs.Feedback
Give yourself time, have a sturdy tripod and use your in-camera timer, so your end shot is crisp!
