Behind The Lens

Location

I'm am amateaur photographer in Ottawa, Ontario. This photo was taken out in an open field where I just so happened to catch a glimpse of this interesting white contrast against the long brown grass.

Time

I remember it was a really dull looking morning, but I figured I'd drag myself out of bed anyways and make the most out of the day. Sometimes the mucky weather brings out the most unique little creatures, like this beautiful Showshoe Hare!

Lighting

It was a cloudy day with quite an overcast and there was a light drizzle of rain that added a bit of a gloom to the atmosphere.

Equipment

This photo was taken with a Canon 7D Mark ii paired with a Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM lens.

Inspiration

I've always wanted to get a really nice photo of a rabbit. They're something that most of us can see on a frequent basis in our neighbourhoods, yet we never really stop to take a moment and enjoy them. I couldnt belive it when I came across this handsome little fellow. His charm just had to be shared!

Editing

Because of the poorer lighting conditions, I processed this photo through Adobe Photoshop in order to reduced some of the shadows and bring up the exposure a tad. I also added a touch of warmth in order to properly reflect the new brown tones in this hares beautiful spring coat.

In my camera bag

I only ever bring my Canon 7D mark ii camera, Canon 100-440mm ii lens and a spare battery of course! It's the only gear I currently have as I'm quite new to photography, but my next stop is a tripod!

Feedback

When it comes to smaller creatures, I like to put myself in their shoes. These guys are quite fast and often bolt away at a moments notice so I always photograph Snowshoe Hares while I lay down on my stomach. This allows optimal stabilizaion, a unique perspective and most importantly, it reduces any unwanted stress on the subject.
