Location
This was taken at a local bar in Austin, Texas at one of the Drink and Click events that are held there. The bar has a great outdoor area with a few different spaces that look great in photos. Outdoor signs, rusted mechanical pieces, and different decor pieces provide a lot of visual interest in photographs.Time
This was taken at night. The bar we were at has an outdoor section, there are some string lights out there but they are mostly ambient. The team from Drink and Click bring in lighting setups for photoshoots including ring and stand lights that can be used by attendees. This photo was not set up or posed by me, it was a great moment I caught when the model looked away to adjust her hair. There was a fan in front of her, that caught her hair mid adjustment.Lighting
Lighting was provided by the people who set up the event. I believe a ring light was set up in front of our model, to the left in the picture. There was also ambient lighting decor that the venue had normally setup.Equipment
This was shot on my Nikon D5300 with my Tamron 28-75mm lens. Handheld shot, no other equipment.Inspiration
I mostly shoot street and landscape scenes so I used the Drink and Click meetings to work on my portraiture. For this meetup I tried to capture a lot of candid shots, working around other photographers in the group to try and capture the moments away from the pose.Editing
I normally use Lightroom for my post-processing. For this picture, I did some basic editing, bringing out the contrast in the photo and bumping up some of the background textures. In my camera bag
For these photoshoots, I normally carry my Tamron 28-75mm and my 50mm prime. I keep my kit relatively light, as I normally do a lot of walking and moving around to get my shots.Feedback
I try for mostly candid shots. There are times I want something specific from models, but most of my photos are looking for candid moments. Candid shots sometimes come out the best.
