Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in a studio that had a black backdrop (cyc)

Time

As this was a studio, time of day didn't matter very much. however the shoot was held between 10am-2pm. I think this shot was made about 1pm.

Lighting

One strong strobe above, another that was not as bright on the photographers left.

Equipment

Camera was a modern Mirrorless camera with a 24-70mm lens. No tripod. Godox flashes and a Godox trigger on the camera

Inspiration

I enjoy looking a ballet. I wanted to try to recreate some interesting poses.

Editing

Post processing was minimal. Mostly cleaning up parts of the set that allowed light leaks.

In my camera bag

I normally carry only what I am using and a few spare parts. These spares are a spare battery and extra SD cards. Sometimes a second lens, but for photographing people a 24-70mm lens is about perfect.

Feedback

Work with your model. Discuss with them what you are trying to accomplish. Get their input on how the image could be improved. Re-shoot with the new ideas. For me a perfect picture or two is more important than a large number of good but not great pictures. And for all models, send them pictures as soon as possible, within 3 days if not less.
