Behind The Lens

Location

Walking through the magic village of Saint Paul de Vence in the South of France, these old streets take you back to a time gone by. The village is filled with old world charm and outstanding art galleries.

Time

This image was taken in December and the light was good for photography for most of the day as the sky was overcast.

Lighting

There was no added lighting to this shot and it was taken with the sunlight available which was a little overcast.

Equipment

I would like to say differently, but amazingly, this photo was taken with a smartphone.

Inspiration

I loved these narrow alleyways in these medieval villages. Unspoiled by times, they are so different from anything in Australia.

Editing

Loved this image but it was spoiled by a manhole in the middle of the path at the front of the image. Removed it in Photoshop. As this image was a happy snap on holidays, it was very much a point and shoot moment with the smartphone doing the processing.

In my camera bag

Things have changed dramatically for me now. I have since bought a Nikon D750 with two lenses (still adding to the collection). Depending on where I am I use either my 50mm or my 20mm. I'm also experimenting with macro and have some extension tubes. I also have two tripods - both Manfrotto - a pixi tripod and a standard sized tripod. I also carry some filters, ND, Polarising, UV.

Feedback

I now look at almost everything with a photographer's eye. It's amazing how photography takes over what and how you see things. Digital photography has made this art form so much more accessible and gives me a platform to improve my skills. If I see something that I believe will look good in a photo, I take a shot of it.
