Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken in side the Bruny Island Lighthouse whilst on holidays in January 2020. Bruny Island is south of Hobart, the capital of Tasmania, Australia.

Time

Taken around midday 10 Jan 20

Lighting

Ambient internal lighting

Equipment

Sony a6000, 18-135 lens at 18mm, hand-held, no flash. 1/250s @ f4, 2500 iso. I used the flippable screen of my Sony a6000 to get the position as close to centre (upward) as possible.

Inspiration

I spotted the opportunity as soon as stepped inside the lighthouse. Fortunately, I was part of a small group, which allowed me to stand directly under the staircase.

Editing

In post-processing, I tried different formats and settled on square as it seemed to complement (or perhaps contrast) to the circular shape. There was little colour inside so I converted to B&W to control the colour balance.

In my camera bag

This time I had just the a6000. I left the a7ii kit behind on this occasion.

Feedback

Always carry a camera, which includes a phone.
