Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in my bathtub. No, really!!! I used a couple bath bombs to get the colour right and picked up some florals from my local florist. (Fern and Frond!)

Time

I shot this around 1 pm, there is just a small window that lets light into this bathroom so that was a challenge.

Lighting

I had a small umbrella light up just about the model. I really wanted the vibrancy of the colours and I find when you underexpose (as done here) you get it!

Equipment

Sony A7III Samyang 35mm 1.4 Umbrella Light

Inspiration

The makeup artist (Ginger Turley Artistry), model (Emily Phillips of DejaVu Model Mgmt) and I wanted to create something. I saw photographers doing what you see vs what I see sessions and thought something like this would be perfect. My bathtub has never looked so beautiful.

Editing

Definitely! My base preset is SMAL 01, always. From there I increased vibrance and saturation and a few other tweaks. Then moved it to photoshop to edit in the style of Kate Whyte.

In my camera bag

Sony A7iii Samyang 35mm 1.4 Samyang 85mm 1.4 A few flashes Lots of batteries & memory cards Something fun to shoot through, whether it be a plastic bag, a copper pipe or a crystal Snacks, lots of snacks!

Feedback

Dont be afraid to play! Stand in the tub if you have to. And just have fun. That was goal for us! This image was also published in Elegant Magazine, all because we decided to have a shoot just for fun.
