Behind The Lens

Location

I took this picture in Tamblingan lake, Bedugul, Bali, Indonesia. It's one of the stop that i planned on my longest and one of the most memorable road trip so far. I drove around 1200 KM from Jakarta to Bedugul with some other stop along the road. Definitely one of my favorite spot and definitely will plan to stop there again when I have the chance again.

Time

It was 5.30 in the morning. I've been planning to go there since the night before. My favorite thing to capture is definitely a sunrise. I can barely close my eyes because i'm just so excited to actually take photos again after awhile. I woke up at 4.30 when it's still dark. I still have around 30 minutes drive up and down a mountain road from where i slept to go to this lake. When i arrive nobody is there so that was a relief. I realize my breathe and my car exhaust are so steamy so i checked the temperature on my car display, it was 12 degree celcius. It's so cold for me because where i'm from 24 is the lowest it can goes. But once I held the trigger on my finger, nothing can stop me.

Lighting

I really want to capture the surreal feeling of early morning. Seeing the sunrise in the middle of nowhere, with nobody else but you and your camera. You can feel the temperature is rising yet still chilly as the wind still gushing trough. The warm color of the sun shining trough the settling fog, through the droplets creating beautiful bokeh, rays and shot.

Equipment

I'm really just a student so the only thing I can afford and use for my picture currently is a second hand Fujifilm X-A3 with its kit lens. To help stabilize the camera i use a fairly cheap small tripod that i own since i was in junior high school, which is not ideal but definitely does the job.

Inspiration

My favorite shot is always really early morning of sun rising to the horizon greeting you. There is just something about being in the middle of nowhere, alone but you and your camera while every other people is tucked tight in their blanket on their bed.

Editing

Yes I did. Just some minor adjustment to the shadow lighting and color tone to make the picture pop a little more.

In my camera bag

I'm a student so i can't afford anything but a second hand Fujifilm X-A3 and it's kit lens which you might consider as a beginner or not even a choice for equipment but definitely an upgrade for me from my past gear which is Fujifilm Finepix S2980 that you can't even do manual focus, two memory cards and a polarizing filter.

Feedback

Let the nature surprise you. Most people will do bunch load of research before go to a place to take picture, make tons of preparation, and making the experience less authentic. Instead, throw a dart, see where it's landed, go there with your camera, feel what the nature is trying to tell you, what you feel there, enjoy it, then capture the moment.
