Behind The Lens

Location

This image was shot at the Cheltenham Badlands in Caledon, Ontario, Canada. The “Badlands” is an area of soft rock that has become molded into a rolling landscape of rounded hills and gullies. The badlands exhibit a reddish hue of the Queenston Shale that forms them and it is the iron oxide in the shale that produces this colour. At one time we could walk through the badlands but they have now become a heritage site and can only be viewed from a viewing station. I love the hues of the badlands especially in the late afternoon sun.

Time

This image was shot in the mid afternoon on a very hot and sunny day in July a number of years back. The afternoon sun brought out all the colours of the shale. We had been at the farm where we boarded our horses and dressed casually for walking around the badlands.

Lighting

This moment in time in the afternoon sun blended all the colours in the area and the boots quite nicely and quite harmoniously.

Equipment

This image was shot with my very old Nikon D200. Most of my other cameras were in for servicing so I pulled out my old backup camera! I used Nikkor 70-300mm lens.

Inspiration

This shot was a moment in time ..... a memory. We all love our Phat Baby cowboy boots and wearing them for all occasions. My niece exclaimed "these boots are made for walking" ...... hence the picture! I loved the light and I loved how all the colours blended in the area with the boots. It was a fun moment on an enjoyable afternoon hiking about the badlands.

Editing

Very little post processing was done. I bumped up the vibrance and the saturation a little.

In my camera bag

I always carry my Nikon D500 and D750 or D810 cameras with me. I always carry my Nikon 200-500mm, 28-300mm, 70-300mm and 24-120mm lenses with me as they suit whatever shooting I will be doing. I always carry rain cover, cleaners, brushes and clothes as well.

Feedback

When the moment inspires you or just feels right ...... just shoot away!!!!!
