Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in the front yard of my sister's (pictured) mother-in-law's house in Miami, FL.

Time

It was late afternoon and overcast. It poured rain right before and right after I took these. My sister and I had been trying to do her maternity pictures for months and hadn't been able to. This was about a week before she gave birth so waiting for better weather and lighting was NOT an option at this point!!!

Lighting

I used one strobe camera left with a 55" umbrella. Three people were ready to grab the light and run inside if it started pouring again. Thankfully we were not far from the front door and made several sprints in and out during this session.

Equipment

I shot this with my Pentax K-70 camera with an HD 35mm macro prime lens. The camera was on a tripod and I had a strobe with 55" umbrella.

Inspiration

My sister and I had been trying to get together to shoot her maternity pictures for months. There was so much going on, and her due date was approaching fast.

Editing

Yes. Always. First I use Lightroom to develop the raw image, then I bring it into photoshop to smooth out skin, create a matte look, and give a consistent color across all images in a set.

In my camera bag

I only have one camera and one lens so that is what is always in my bag. My Pentax K-70 with the HD 35mm macro prime lens. I hope to add more lenses soon.

Feedback

A strobe on an overcast day will ALWAYS create some drama! :)
