I took this shot of my willing model: A Rolleiflex model 2.8A Equipped with the Zeiss Opton Tessar 80 mm lens. While it was sitting on my coffee table. I was looking for some more rustic texture to complement the camera, so my teak table was a good match.Time
an afternoon with nothing else to do, poring rain outside hindering my plans for outdoor shooting, I just started playing with my gear indoors and created this.Lighting
I was testing out the remote triggering of my flash. I mounted it on a tripod and wanted to get enough highlights on the metal to complement the black camera leather. Also I wanted to leave some shadow parts in total black.Equipment
Shot with Olympus EM5-mark II. With the Olympus Zuiko 12-40 2.8 Pro. My oly is my go-to digital camera... and the only digital camera in my arsenal. ;-) Flash: Godox V860II for micro four thirds with remote radio trigger. (fun fact... using a basic cable I can use this very sophisticated modern unit on the camera seen here!)Inspiration
I love the old film noir style, vintage things, analog photography. I wanted to capture the vintage feeling.Editing
In Adobe Lightroom I did some minor tweaking of the contrast but mostly I limited my actions to converting the colors to a sepia-like style. I added a bit of vignetting in the corners to add to the vintage feel.In my camera bag
The filling of my bag varies... depending on the occasion. Typically my Olympus EM5-mkII will be in there most often with the 12-40 lens. For more light walks around town I just sling it over my shoulder with the 17mm prime lens. But then the horror of choosing starts... I just love my old camera's: The depicted Rolleiflex is not just being pretty, it works and I use it! Also sometimes I bring my foldable Zeiss Ikon Tessar in case I want a bit larger 6x9 view for my medium format shooting e.g. for landsapes. When hitting the town it's sometimes just my Leica M2 with a collapsible Elmar 50 mm, all preferably locked and loaded with black and white film! Analog rules! Especially when your batteries run empty on your digital camera, vintage won't let you down!Feedback
Nowadays you can often set your camera on viewing in sepia or black and white. Try it, you will find out a new way to look at the world. What might seem boring in color can be captivating when captured monochromatic.
