Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in my apartment bathroom!

Time

This image was taken one morning when I was feeling good. I woke up late, around 9 am, which is pretty late for me. I took my time getting ready for once and grabbed my friend, my Nikon d750 and decided to have some fun.

Lighting

I chose the lighting in my bathroom because I have these lights above the mirror that I can move and adjust. I wanted the focus to be on the lens and I liked the way these lights reflect against the lens. I was trying to create a more mysterious self portrait, hence my hidden face.

Equipment

This was shot on my Nikon d750 and no other equipment other than my 50mm f/1.4 lens was used!

Inspiration

I was inspired by seeing everyone get creative with their self portraits during quarantine and considered this my start in creating from home.

Editing

Yes, but only Lightroom. The idea behind the photo was rather simple and I already had some good lighting and focus on the lens and brought that out a little bit more with some minor adjustments in Lightroom. I mostly played with the lighting a little bit and added a radial filter to the lens.

In my camera bag

I go everywhere with my Nikon d750 and no matter what I use, I always gravitate towards the nifty 50 - my 50mm f/1.4 lens!

Feedback

I think when it comes to taking self portraits you can use reflections to play around greatly but I also think it is great to have a helping hand to capture the perfect image. Never be afraid to ask for help.
