This photo was taken at home, in my home-studioTime
It was probably in the evening. First I have to set up the studio and let the kitten adjust to the lights and the props.Lighting
Lighting was done with 2 studioflashes, supported with softboxes.Equipment
Picture was taken with my good old Canon EOS 300D, with 18-55mm kitlens.Inspiration
When we have kittens around, I try to picture them every week to see their development. This week I found this little bathroom-mirror in a shop, and I thought it would be a great idea to use it in the studio. Luckily, this kitten is a real model, he was so easy to handle and photogenic. Adding the mirror was easy to do, and he quickly started to look at me through the mirror.Editing
The only challenge is to have an empty surrounding in the mirror-image. Here the windows of my room are still visible, but I didn't want to photoshop that away. So, this is the real deal. I also have pictures with his dad in the mirror-image, also very nice, but this looks a bit photoshopped, so I thought it is not suitable for a photocontest with mirroring as subject. In my camera bag
For studiowork I use my Canon EOS 6Dii with a suitable midrange lense. When working with cats, I prefer to use a light weight zoom, or a prime, to keep my other hand free to handle the animal.Feedback
Don't be afraid to play around with props like mirrors. It is really fun, and you quickly see the results. Pay attention to the mirror-image, keep distracting surroundings away from the angle you shoot with.
