This image wouldn’t have been possible if i wouldn’t spend so much time on scouting and pre-planning. I was aware of the fact that the full moon would be perfectly aligned with the rock needle around 8pm and tried to shoot the scene the night before, but heavy clouds obscured the moon.
The next evening I was photographing the image “View & Vision“ (see last post) and had to make the tough decision wether to wait for some lights in the monastery to turn on or to get this moon scene over the city of Kastraki. In the very last possible moment i decided to forget about the monastery’s light and drove like a mad man to this location. Thanks to my pre-planning I knew the exact viewpoint and focal length for my desired composition, so I was able to take the shot just 2 minutes after my arrival - just in time.
Once again i had a bit of bad luck with the haze and clouds, but I still like how the moon stands over the rock needle, which is seemingly guarding the city beneath it in the night.
