Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in my home. I am a self taught photographer and learn something from every photo shoot.

Time

I was just home from a photo shoot at the beach and thought the cat looked like an interesting subject. It was 6 pm CST.

Lighting

I used my Nikon Speedlight SB-600 as the light indoors was not bright enough.

Equipment

This was shot on a Nikon d850 using a Nikon 28-300 lens and a Nikon Speedlight SB600.

Inspiration

I had just returned from taking beach photos and was inspired to take a photo of the cat on his cat tree. He was looking like he thought he was the king of his castle.

Editing

I used Adobe Photoshop elements to crop the photo and to adjust the luminance of the color.

In my camera bag

I always carry my Nikon d850 with the 28-300 mm lens and my Speedlight. Depending on what type of photo shoot, I may also carry my Nikon d810 with a Nikon 50mm lens and my Tamron 150-600mm lens and extra tripod.

Feedback

Be patient when getting a portrait of an animal. Take several shots from different angles and distances as you experiment to determine what will give you the type of shot that you are trying to achieve.
