Behind The Lens

Location
The photo was taken in South Sudan during my stay of almost 10 days in a camp in a Mundari village located near to the banks of the White Nile river. The subjec is a Mundari child standing with a bull of the cattle at sunset.
Time
This photo was taken on February 21st, 2020 at 17:08pm.
Lighting
As far as possible, I'm in use to take advantage of natural light. It is very important to check the weather forecast mostly if your journey plan doesn't allow to spend more than a couple of days on the site.
Equipment
This image was shot on a Nikon D810 with the AF-S 24-70mm f/2.8G ED lens without involving a tripod.
Inspiration
I remember how difficult was to find a good position to be able to take the image against the sunlight and in front of the child and the bull. The hardest part was to find the right position at the right moment for shooting as the bull was moving without the chance to control its position. My aim was to realize a good composition from an interesting point of view and with a dramatic sky, pointed out by the sun partially hidden behind the horns of the bull. I made about 10 shots, looking for the best combinations of those elements (the availability of a great amount of time is one of the advanteges for a lonely traveler as I am). Fortunately, at the end the result was worth my efforts.
Editing
Yes, I do. As the photo has been shot against the source of light I had to adjust shadows and lights with Lightroom in order to bring out the details in the darker area. Moreover, I decrease a bit the saturation and warm colors trying to give to the picture a bit more of drama, according to the scene.
In my camera bag
As a frequent traveller and backpacker, my gear is a good tradeoff between quality and size/weight: the two bodies NIKON D810 and NIKON D610 and the following set of lenses and filters: NIKKOR AF-S 16-35mm f/4G ED VR, NIKKOR AF-S 50mm f/1.8G, NIKKOR AF-S 24-70mm f/2.8G ED, NIKKOR AF-S 24-85mm f/3.5-4.5G IF ED VR, NIKKOR AF-S 70-200mm f/4G ED N VR. Few accessories complete my equipment: KENKO Digital Filter Circular PL, MANFROTTO Tripod MK293A4-A3RC1 and a METZ Flash Mecablitz 52 AF-1.
Feedback
Concerning the composition, I suggest to move a lot in order to discover the best place to shot. In the specific case of this picture, I decided to place me in front of the sun to try to capture a stronger image. Then, before to take the picture, I squatted in order to obtain a more interesting point of view and to be able to point out the size of the wonderful bovine.
