Behind The Lens

Location
This photo was taken in my local area near Reading, Berkshire, UK. The place is called Padworth Common and is a forestry area, providing opportunities for images all year round. I feel very fortunate that this image has received the amount of attention it has received, getting over 160 Peer Awards.
Time
I walk this area with my dog quite often but came here to take this photo early in the morning at 6am on a cold winters day. The crispness of the frost and the light make this image one of my favourites.
Lighting
Taken on a very cold morning in January, the mist and the light provide the perfect ambience to compliment the landscape.
Equipment
Canon 70D with a Sigma 18-200mm IS lens. Handheld and no flash used.
Inspiration
I love landscape photography and am always looking to show local people the beauty on their doorstep.
Editing
Mainly post-processing was used to turn down the exposure slightly because of the mist, this helped bring out the shapes of the trees better as you look into the distance.
In my camera bag
My camera rucksack normally contains my Canon 70D, Canon EF 100-400 IS II, Canon 50mm 1.8 and Sigma 18-250 mm IS. Two extra 64gb 90mb/sec cards and my MeFoto Carbon Fibre tripod attached to the side.
Feedback
Don't think you have to travel far and wide to get some stunning photos, take a look what's on your doorstep and you'll be surprised. I'm lucky to live in a rural location and this image was taken less than 10 minutes from my home. Always take a look at things and try to envisage what the scene may look like at different times of the day, visit early morning and in the evening when the sun is setting. You'll always see different colours by varying the time of day.
