Location
The photo was taken on beach at eastern side of Ko Muk (Koh Mook) at Thailand during our island hopping trip with my wife.Time
The day before, we agreed that we would rise early and take a walk to the beach to watch sunrise. So we woke up early in the morning, about 5:30 AM and strolled to the beach. We were in no hurry because we had an hour before the sun was about to rise and our walk would take only 30 minutes. So we were in good time at the beach and I had enough time to prepare.Lighting
In this photo the sun is just little bit over the horizon, so I got some of the blue sky to balance the strong yellow/orange of rising sun. I also wanted to get little color to the wet beach at front, so my camera was almost at the ground level.Equipment
This was taken with Canon 90D and Canon EF-S 10-18/4.5-5.6 IS STM standing on gorillapod. I bought the lens just before the trip and it was money well spent. Even though it's cheap and made of plastic it delivers quite nice landscape photos when stopped down a bit.Inspiration
I love taking photos of sunsets and sunrises. It's magnificent how in the morning world awakens with the sunrise, and on the other hand calms down during sunset. I always have some of my gear with me when travelling because I want to have something that reminds me of the trip. Even though photography is very meaningful for me, I want to spend time with my wife as well if we are on vacation together. So everyone journeying somewhere with someone, should remember to leave their camera to accommodation once in a while.Editing
Nothing ground shaking post-processing was done here, some overall saturation and bit more for red, orange and blue. Highlight and shadows were tweaked down a bit. My favourite slider in Lightroom, clarity, was of course slidden up for humble 25%. I don't want to spend too much time post processing my photos, but I admire the perseverance that some people have when spending hours in Photoshop. In my camera bag
Most of the time I have my trusty Canon 5D mark IV combined with Canon EF 70-200/2.8. With this lens one just can't screw up, it's sharp and bright and focuses spot on almost always. Canon 90D is hanging around quite often paired with aforementioned ef-s 10-18 or Canon ef 24-70/4.0 IS, and sometimes Canon 6D also, especially when photographing weddings and then usually paired with Canon ef 100/2.0 for some special shots.Feedback
If you get a change to journey to Thailand, it's definitely worth it to take a trip on some small island where it's possible to take photos of sunsets and -rises with just little moving around. Of course it's possible to photograph sunsets and sunrises everywhere, no need to pollute the planet and tour on the other side of the planet. When shooting near water you can catch nice reflections on the water and shore as well. Few nicely coloured clouds on the sky could change your photo from mediocre to splendid, so remember to check the weathercast and sky. Something stabilization for the camera is almost a must have, but you don't have to buy tripod for this. Rest your camera on a steady rock, or log or use a bean bag. Just be sure not to drop your camera. If you have remote control for your camera use it, or use timer so your photos won't end up shaky. Taking photos straight to sun might be little tricky because of the strong contrast with bright sun and dark landscape, so I advice you to use manual exposure and take couple shots, play a bit with settings until you are satisfied with the outcome. Try to have your ISO as low as you can so you won't get excess noise to your photos. Stop down your lens so that you have sharp image most of the way, or if you have some point of interest in your photo, make sure it's sharp and correctly exposed. I shoot always in RAW so that I have more freedom in post processing to open up shadows and get some detail to brighter areas. Lightroom is great tool for processing photos but there are many others on the market and some free ones also.
