Behind The Lens

Location

This image was taken on a cool winter morning in the Yosemite Valley.

Time

I stumbled across this spot a little after sunrise. The light was hitting the peaks and I had to set up for this shot.

Lighting

The light was perfect and I was stunned by the perfect reflection.

Equipment

Sony A7ii Tamron 17-28mm FLM tripod

Inspiration

I hadn’t been to Yosemite in years and wanted to capture everything. This is a pretty iconic spot that I stumbled across.

Editing

I used lightroom for most of the edit then photoshop for some light dodging and burning. This picture didn’t need a lot.

In my camera bag

I always have my Sony A7ii camera body and Tamron 17-28mm. My Sony 70-200mm is generally in my bag unless I’m going on a long hike as it’s quite heavy. The Tamron 28-75mm though I’m finding it isn’t being used as much as I used to. A good filter kit like the Kase magnetic filter set is a must for any landscape photographer. I have a CPL, 3 stop and 6 stop ND. A remote intervelometer I carry in case I want to do a short time lapse. The one thing I always always bring is my FLM tripod with Colorado Tripod ball head. Both are fantastic and I constantly use them.

Feedback

Research and planning help a lot when going to somewhere iconic like Yosemite but don’t forget there’s lots to discover and photograph you don’t normally see photographers post. It’s a beautiful park and the valley is only a small part of it.
