Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken in my backyard, which is where I take most of my shots. I like to take shots here because it's easy to access and there's so many things to see out here.

Time

The time of day I took this shot it was a super cold december mid-day and just after it had rained from the previous day. I went out about 3:00pm which I don't know why I decided to go out at this time, but it made for a good shot though.

Lighting

Well I wanted my image to have a Sense of calm over it when you look at the image. Also I wanted to make the viewer really impressed with how light can make things seem more sharp. I wanted to emphasize the water droplets in this shot since they are the main focus, to make sure they popped out at you.

Equipment

Well for my camera I used the Canon EOS 50D, the lens I used the 28-135mm lens, and that's everything I used.

Inspiration

What inspired me to take this photo was always the love of seeing water droplets on things. For some reason they just look so cool to me. And I always wanted to take photographs of them from seeing other people's Instagram post. So I see this shot as the first step into water droplet photography.

Editing

So usually I do post-processing because of the type of camera I use. It's a pretty old camera so to make a shot really pop I have to make sure that I have time to edit the photo after it's taken. So what I did is I shot this particular shot in raw then I use my phone to edit the raw files and play with the light and the colors. I also play with the exposure to make it seem more tantalizing to the eye. I take it to several different apps on my phone such as Snapseed, Photoshop, etc.... After that process I decided to settle on the look of the image you see now.

In my camera bag

The equipment I normally use is very simple stuff I just pack my canon camera first which I only have one of. Then I pack my lens which I also only use one lens. That's everything I use currently because right now I'm kinda on a budget lol.

Feedback

What I would say to someone who's trying to take a similar shot like this is to wait for the rain. Down here in Georgia where I live it's very muggy, and hot but during the cold months it seems to rain alot and leaves just naturally form droplets on their surface. Another thing you should do is find the best time to take this shot because although I took this shot during mid-day you could take it at a different time and get better results with different lighting.
