Behind The Lens

Location

I took this picture in a beauty salon where I get my hair done on a weekly basis. The salon is located in a part of the owner's residence. The kitten belongs to the hairdresser's 7 year old son Kent. Kent asked for an "orange" kitten, and would not agree to any other type, so his parents got him this one and his name is Milo. Since I am a cat lover the lady often brings Milo in to the salon when I am there.

Time

The photo was taken in the early afternoon, when Milo came in for a visit; I was the only patron there at the time.

Lighting

The salon had lots of natural lighting and since it was daylight, I only had to focus and take advantage of the existing light. No flash or other light was used.

Equipment

I hand held my camera that had a 24-105mm lens mounted and set at 105mm and with manual settings.

Inspiration

I wanted to capture some shots of the kitten so that I could present Kent with some nice photos of his new pet. In addition to that I rarely miss an opportunity to photograph an animal of any kind.

Editing

I use Photoshop and for this image I increased contrast, clarity and vibrance.

In my camera bag

I always have my Canon EOS 6D Mark II with the Canon 24-105mm lens mounted; then there is my Canon 50mm prime, JJC remote, Lee Filter System with Big Stopper Filter, and in a separate lens bag a 150-600mm Tamron zoom lens.

Feedback

This was definitely not a difficult shot to take, but just the same one has to concentrate on getting a sharp focus, a nice composition and beware of distractions in the frame. Get the focus right and if necessary recompose. I much prefer Back Button Focusing.
